Filming of an NHS commercial recently took place inside the library. An historic first!
Our smaller space was spectacularly transformed into a doctor’s surgery for the final scene. One of the doctor’s ‘cupboards’ and the ‘basin’ on the left are hiding the real life fire escape! But there was no disguising the beautiful wooden floor that we had restored, thanks to community donations.
During filming, the main space was packed with dozens of crew and monitors. Outside, tall dazzling lamps simulated daylight streaming through the blinds – in reality, this was mostly a night shoot.
Life imitated art though, as our last three Covid-19 vaccine sessions had taken place in the very same space as shown in the commercial, the Dave Williams room.
Other local sites featured in the ad include brekkie favourite, Arthur’s Cafe (look out for the blue gingham tablecloths). Award-winning production company Mad Cow Films and top creators Saatchi made the commercial.
