Bringing People Together With Opportunity
The lady in the picture has just been to the Jobcentre, but doesn’t understand the emails they send her. Also, she doesn’t fully understand the job ads they forward, and can’t write a covering letter to accompany her cv. So, we explain the emails, and write the letter for her.
..But then, she asks for more help to put it all on her smartphone, in order to send. On the day, that’s beyond our own skill set – argh!
…But then, the gent in the picture, who has only just joined the library, very kindly steps in to help with the phone, and all is well.
Better yet – and pay-off: when the gent finds out that the lady is looking for catering work, he gives her another two email addresses to write to – as he’s Marketing Chief of a very well-known chain of restaurants. The woman is made up.
As another user remarked: “This library… it’s not just about the books, is it?”

“I LOVE this story. I literally moved to Kensal Rise because of this library. I did not know the area and was exploring it on my bicycle. I saw the long banner outside the library that said “save our library!” I thought, these are my people. I want to live in a community that saves its library. That was seven years ago, and it was a fantastic decision.” Gilbey Strub, Local Resident
